Minneapolis Duathlon Race Recap

December 2011- It all started with an intent to race and a registration fee.

June-July 2012- I blew it off.  Just another race in the Monster Series for the year.  Blah. Blah. Blah.

August 12- Panic set in.  “I have a race in 2 weeks that I didn’t really train for.  I haven’t practiced any transitions.  I haven’t done a single brick workout in over a month. Ugh!”

Deep breath.  Trust your legs.

August 24- I Ryan threw some race wheels on my bike~

August 25- I put some Yankz on the Newtons~

I picked up my race packet~

August 26- I woke up at 500am with jitters.

Showed up to transition at 630am. Racked my bike.  Deep breath.

Wave 11.  10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-GO.

“Don’t start too fast.  Keep the pace around 8:30.” Miles 1-2-3. “What is this crazy uphill ramp doing here? That’s a fine ‘Welcome to transition 1’!”

Change shoes. Put on helmet.  Grab glasses. Drink something. Get out of here! “Your legs will feel better on the bike.”

“Damn these wheels are fast!” 20+mph “Do NOT let the dude in tennis shoes pass you!”

On Your Left!

“Holy crap some guy is on an ElliptiGo!” (Really TeamOrtho? That is just wrong.)

Almost to transition 2…”Holy crap this last hill sucks!”

I thought the bike was 15 miles, not 16?

Dismount. Click. Clack. Click. Clack. “How far are they making us run in our cleats?”

Rack bike.  Take off helmet.  Change shoes. Drink water.  “Only 3 more miles”.

Mile 1- ouch!
Mile 2- almost there.  “Dig deep!”
Mile 3- ouch! “Just get in under 1:50.  Run.  One foot in front of the other.”

Finish.  1:48

So very happy to be done. 🙂

14th/83 in age group 35-39

I couldn’t be happier with these results. I went into this with no expectations, other than to try my best of course. I dug deep and found some inner strength yesterday.

You really are stronger than you think you are!

  2. An ElliptiGo? Really!? I’m bummed I missed you! I havent really been running at all since May. I did a brick work out last wednesday…I havent worked out since then. Only three weeks until Iron Girl. I’m trying to get either a run or bike workout in every day. We’ll see how that goes. Great job!

    • I couldn’t believe it when I saw it? How does that count as a bike? Crazy! But hey, he won the ElliptiGo category:)
      Thanks! You will do great at IronGIRL. I don’t think the brick workouts are necessary anyway. Either way, the legs always feel awful that second run. Just keep moving forward! And stay healthy!
