You are only as good as the company you keep

…we have all heard the saying, but do we all live by the saying?

What are the people you surround yourself like? Do you have similar goals and inspirations? Do your friends make you feel excited about life?

Being careful about the company you keep is similar to being careful of the foods you eat.   If you really pay attention to the effects of different foods on your body, you’ll have more control over your physical well-being.    For example, you may eat a big greasy pizza and notice that you don’t feel good afterward. You may feel sluggish and unmotivated.  This gives you a chance to control how you’re going to feel in the future, by choosing whether you really want to have another big greasy slice of pizza or not. I actually have gotten to the point in my life, that I really don’t even want to ingest the greasy stuff anymore.  It makes me feel terrible.  No one wants to go for a run or bike ride after you eat that crap!

While at the cabin this past weekend, there were a few meals we ate that were not very high on the healthy scale.  For example, when you go to a restaurant that offers this on the menu:

It is hard to pick out something that may be considered “healthy”.  I ended up getting a taco salad with chicken.  I skipped out on eating the shell bowl and sour cream and added jalapeno and salsa to the top.  ARE THEY SERIOUS?  “On the lighter side” should mean salads, fresh fruits, half sandwiches.  Heck, anything but fried with cheese, right?!

Point being, if you surround yourself around restaurants that only offer unhealthy choices and stuff your pantry full of Doritoes…you will fail.  Period.

Isn’t it true then that you are only as good as the company you keep?!  I know that Ryan and I have a huge variety of friends, but the people we surround ourselves with most are those that are most like us- active, competitive, inspiring to be fitter, health conscious and strong.  I don’t want to look around my group of friends and be the only one not training for something, not getting better, not pushing myself farther.  I want to be a part of the group- a solid group of fit individuals.

Surround yourself with positive people and you will be more positive.

Surround yourself with active people and you will want to be more active.

Surround yourself with inspiring people and you will be inspired!
